I have worked at my job as a project manager in a small office for 3 and a half years, I was their longest employee. The office consisted of 2 male owners, 1 admin, 2 graphics, and 6 analysts of one sort or another.
The 2 bosses just love kiss-ups, they are those kind of bosses. They never really cared for me because I am not one, have more education than they do and pretty much just went in, did my job, stayed late sometimes, went home, got a paycheck. Very dull.
Anyway, last July one of the bosses had a "talk" with me, a very unprofessional and undocumented one. He accused me of having an attitude problem, a chip on my should, not wanting to work there, starting fights with co-workers (never happened), stealing snacks, and numerous other things. I asked for specific examples, he provided none, just berated me for 45 minutes and sent me home in tears.
Since then, I have been treated very differently, with much less respect than the rest of the staff and with the other boss never saying a word to me any longer, he would greet everyone in the office but me. They were very obviously trying to get me to leave, but it is Las Vegas, I found nothing else. Pretty much an uncomfortable nightmare, luckily I got along very well with most of my co-workers.
Well I guess too well! They never liked that 2 other ladies in the office and I had become very good friends. Turned out at some point, they put spyware on our 3 computers. We did kind of figure this out, I do not know if they just saw the company emails or everything we did, but I never said anything negative about the bosses or the company in emails because I was paranoid about spyware.
Come the holidays, I get fired, not supposedly for something I said in the emails, but supposedly for the frequency of them. That is the ONLY reason. The other 2 ladies who I was such good friends with, they have forced them to resign or be fired, which they have resigned.
I am just wondering if sending too many emails is misconduct and they can argue against my unemployment benefits? This came as quite a shock, I was NEVER ever told or warned anything about sending emails, use of company email, nothing, this was the very first time I had heard of it. Also, there is no company handbook. In addition, these employers broke many employment laws, including forcing everyone to work OT and paying them nothing, which I will send that paperwork in once I find out about the unemployment. But to me, this not really misconduct, as there were no rules and no one was ever warned about this, plus it was the week before 2 of us who got fired, our reviews and raises. Thanks!
Sorry it is long.
Yes, an at-will state. My husband is losing his job too, works at Great Indoors, going out of business here. Thanks!
