I’ve made sure I’m looking for condos in the two Las Vegas suburbs deemed safest and most family friendly, and I’m not a party girl so that’s not an issue. I’ll be working in a clinical setting, whilst working on a Bachelors degree, and my biggest concern in that I’ll be living alone as a young female. I’ve considered taking a few self defense courses before moving, and I’ve done research to try and familiarize myself with the town.

What other precautions can I begin to take now/when I’m there that can help ensure safety? Can you offer any tips/stories/experiences on the subject?

I was offered the job in Las Vegas, NV by this business person who overseas these apartment/condos. He told me to think about moving from Las Vegas all the way over to New York. He wanted me to stay committed to the job he was offering and of course I was excited for this opportunity. These are tough times and to be offered something like this is great.

So I thought about it for 3 months, that would actually be the time the position would be available. I lived in Las Vegas for 10 years straight. I had my life out here, I’ve been through college, lived on my own, kept my first job for 4 years straight, had many good times and some rough times, you know life.

So I thought about what I would be giving up, relationships, not the job because they laid me off, and many other stuff. I felt I could achieve so much more in other city, or country, you know. That I pretty much have gotten enough out of Vegas. It was getting anxious to leave the city, I was tired of the lights and sounds of casinos. I’ve lived away from them mostly, but still, they are there. So I moved to Long Island, NY!

NOW!

It turns out the job is taking to long to get. I’m staying with my family out here, so thats good. But I really came out here to work in the job that was offered to me. I could get another job, but I didn’t move all the way to New York to work at some retail or restaurant job or whatever. I came here because I liked the job offer, and I was willing to make it work out here. I do not regret leaving Las Vegas and don’t plan on returning. Its a closed chapter in my life, and sure all my buddies are out there but I need to find a place where I can excel in a job and meet new people and live in a new city.

Should I go somewhere else, say California, most of my family is out there. I was born in Los Angeles. I want to be somewhere where my dreams can be realized (Cinematographer). I realize the economy is bad, and that there’s so much other people like me looking for a job.

Or should I take advantage of living here where I’m at. NY has great film schools, its a big city (I live an hour outside the city), there’s job openings in retail shops and restaurants (most of my experience), small family out here, I have europe close by.

Its hard to explain and have a real clear question for you to awnser but let me ask you this:

I know starting a new life somewhere else is hard, and maybe I should wait to adjust myself, but I feel this is not the place for me, its not my type of town. I don’t want to go back to a city that has nothing of interest to me, should I just move to California, where I feel I will connect more or am I giving up a good opportunity?
