Can you help me identify this rock.?

I was on vacation in Las Vegas and went hiking about 30 miles south in the area of Sandy Spring along the Ca/NV border.
There were these rocks near some abandonded mines(gold?)
I took some home and polished them.
They are very soft, easily scratched by feldspar.
It bubbles very slightly with concentrated HCl from the hardware store and not at all with dilute.

The color pattern is interesting. Can someone explain the pattern and what it might be.
I thoughy initially it was limestone but my limestone and calcite fizzes like crazy in HCl in this barely reacts.

What are the best places to live in the following states?

Washington
Colorado
Oregon
New York
North Carolina
Virginia
My husband and I are looking to relocate and get the hell out of Las Vegas within the next two years or so, and we’ve narrowed down which states we think we would be best for us. However, we are having a hard time finding information on these states concerning the better areas to live in. We’re looking for a place to settle down, buy a home that we can appreciate, and raise a family in a good community. We are also looking to have the benefits of living in a city or living within a reasonable distance to a city that offers culture, employment, & a decent cost of living, as well as other things. Any advice or links to websites is greatly appreciated.

I’m thinking about relocating in the near future. I’m having a hard time finding a job due to where the jobs are. I also like to know about the good neighborhoods & which ones to stay away from. I prefer to live in a family friendly environement. I would be travel with teenagers nephews that need to learn how to catch the city bus. How good is the city buses. Does the buses run pretty regular & all over the city. I also like to know about what are some good public & charter schools I look into. I never been to Las Vegas. The more detail you could be the better for me to make a good decision esp.about the job economy, neighborhood, school, & public bus system. I heard the jobs are plentiful I still like to get other people input. What things are to do for summer, places I should look visit for recreation for single & children. Thank you very much for your help. Any websites that you could give me would be appreciation also.

Put Money into a Rental home. Co-Investor Skipped Town; Home was Foreclosed. How do I Claim this on Taxes?

2½ years ago, a property mgr asked me to invest some money into a Vegas Rental he had already bought. He managed the property. I gave him ,000 and he added my wife’s and my names to the title. I claimed a write-off on the property the last two years, with 2/3 ownership. I am not on the loan.

The market went down, he stopped communicating, I couldn’t reach him, and the property was foreclosed. Questions:

1. Since I am not on the loan and did not receive a 1099c, I assume I don’t have forgiveness of debt income?

2. I have no records of revenue & expenses for 07, so I was not going to claim these. Should I claim depreciation for the months in 07 before it was sold?

3. Is it correct to use form 4797 to claim the loss?

4. As a 2/3 owner, I claimed 2/3 of the revenue and expenses. Should I only claim 2/3 of the annual depreciation and 2/3 of the loss? I don’t know how to do this on schedule E (depreciation) and form 4797 (Sale).

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Possibly moving to Connecticut?

My husband and I are currently living in Las Vegas and have been wanting to move back east (he’s originally from NY, and I’m from Maine) for quite some time now… we just recently found out that we both have possible transfer opportunities to CT from our jobs. He would be working at the Foxwoods casino there, so we’d need to be somewhere reasonably close to there… What are good areas to live in that are withing 30 – 45 minutes from Foxwoods?
We’ve been checking out real estate in towns like Norwich & New London… But was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a good place to start/ raise a family…

Thanks in advance… :)

Where should I move after my May 2010 graduation?

I am a college senior (yes!) and I am ready to explore new things. In May I will receive a degree in Urban Planning from a great university and I want to get a Master in Real Estate Development and to get into the better programs it is strongly recommended that applicants have field and/or work experience. I am from Southern NJ (blahhh) and basically refuse to go home. I have a couple thousand saved and I am sure after graduation more money will come. Here are my options:
California (Los Angeles Area or Inland Empire)
Atlanta, GA
Las Vegas, NV
New Orleans, LA (Never been but it just seems like a cool city)
NYC (I love the idea of NYC but I would love to have warmer winters & $$$ is a must)
Maryland/DC
Stay home/Philadelphia region (…sad face…tear…)

Please make suggestions on what you may know about the city, their job market and cost of living!

Thanks!
