Relocating to Las Vegas!?
I am thinking about moving to Las Vegas in the next year or so. Are there realators that anyone can recommend? I am looking for a condo that is fairly new and in a nice/safe area? A place where there are more young professionals than families living would be nice as well. I am looking to buy a place if I can find something in my budget. What areas would you recommend? Something within resonable driving distance to the Strip would be good too in case I work there.
Thank you for your help! Actually I work on a cruise ship. Have for almost 4 years now and am looking to do something on land in another year or two. I thought if I save as much as possible during that time then I will be able to invest in a nice 2 or 3 bedroom place and maybe rent out the other rooms. Don’t know how successful that would be in the Vegas area. I thought that Vegas would be a similar atmosphere to the ship which I enjoy. Lots to do in the off time I would think and hopefully the job opportunities are plentiful. Any more info about living in the area would be helpful. What is the quality of life like there?

1st Las vegas is expensive. I lived there for 4 years. A condo will run you about $250,000 for a 1 bedroom. The only place that is safe is in North Las Vegas. Anything near the strip is bad. We had a 3 bedroom apartment at 1st and it was 1000sq ft and we paid $1500 a month. Then we rented a house for $2000 a month and it was a 3 bedroom with 1200 sq ft. We moved because it is just way to expensive now. Hope that helps.

Vegas is really expensive. Like the first person said, a condo is going to run you on the cheap end, $250k. A basic 3 bedroom cluster home with no yard runs in the price range of $350k and up. Henderson is a nice area especially around Green Valley Ranch. For the cost of a condo, you may as well get a house..they dont have yards, so there really is no upkeep per say. My 2 bedroom apartment was $1100, spacious and really nice amenities.
First you need to visit, if you havent already and make sure its where you want to live. There is no grass and its surrounded by mountains. There is nothing to absorb the sun, so the sun reflects off of everything. The valley isnt that big so no matter where you live the commute won’t be terribly bad. The 95 coming down from Summerlin is still under construction and that side is a tough commute. The 15 is always backed up during the day. The 215 has really built up on the North Las Vegas side up towards the east side of Summerlin. That commute isnt that bad, but stay off of the 95 side of Summerlin.
Everything is expensive out there, make sure you visit a few times before you really decide. I moved out there and stayed for 8 months before I came back to Atlanta. Part of me misses it, but there is nothing to do outside of the casino’s. Yea there are concerts, clubs, bars, restaurants and movie theaters, but the ones that are good enough are usually in or around the casino’s on and off the strip.

Just moved to Vegas from Fresno CA and I have found the following:
Rent is comparable to where I came from, car insurance is
E X P E N S I V E. Condos are completely unreasonable, as the other answerers mentioned…..however, I disagree with the North Las Vegas area being safe. Some areas are safer than others, but I wouldn’t go out on a limb and say NLV is "safe."
Good areas to look into: Southern Highlands (where I am) and 5 – 10 minutes from the strip, Summerlin, Anthem, Seven Hills, and Green Valley, all within 20-30 minutes from the strip depending on where you are & how you get there. The District at Green Valley is pretty neat too with shopping, restaurants and Green Valley Station all on property–Whole Foods is across the street…there are condos here but I don’t know the pricing–I’m sure it’s alot though, more than $250K.
They’re building all sorts of condos right now along the strip, there’s even a condo/resort/shopping center being built and it’s HUGE! Condos are huge here right now, some are new construction, others are apartments turned condo…I’ve seen them as low as $175K.
The chamber of commerce and city of Las Vegas and Henderson websites have info on relocating, so you may want to do a Yahoo search for their sites and go from there, as posting the web address itself is a violation of Yahoo Community guidelines.

DUDE! DON’T MOVE TO VEGAS, YOU WILL BE UTTERLY MISERABLE BEYOND COMPARE! BUT, summerlin has condos, and it is a nice place to live.

check out ifindproperties.com this is a guy who does rent to own houses/condos in las vegas. since you on a budget, this might be a good option if you are wanting to buy a house/condo. also check out this website lasvegas.craigslist.com its the best website with so much information on houses, apartments, nightlife, jobs, etc! click on the houses/apts sections, there are a bunch of realtors that advertise under that section, look for the ads like "moving to las vegas, don’t stress" that guy does rentals and he also sells condos and houses. hope this helps you, i am also planning to move to las vegas in the next year so i have been searching a bunch of sites. the lasvegas.craigslist.com is the best i swear!
I am not from Vegas but have visited many times. I was just recently out in November. My brother who is in the Thunderbirds lives in North Las Vegas near Nellis AFB. Very nice, but noisy because of all the jet activity. I have a single friend that lives in Sommerlin, also very nice but pricey. Also, have other friends that live in Green Valley area, ( all went together to purchase home ) this is where I would choose to live if I were making a move to LV. My brother stated that there will be no more new homes being built because there are over 10,000 vacant new homes already even though there are over 2,000 new residents to LV every month. Which is causing him to lose equity with his home, so you may be able to get a fair market value for a home rather than townhouse. Every where is relative to the strip but depending on your work hours because of traffic. LV has changed so much since I started visiting over 10 years ago. I am curious of what line of work your in? You might rethink what neighborhood you would live in because your new hatred for tourist. Trust me, everyone hates tourist drivers, they never keep their eyes on the road. Hope this helps!
