Possibly moving to Connecticut?
My husband and I are currently living in Las Vegas and have been wanting to move back east (he’s originally from NY, and I’m from Maine) for quite some time now… we just recently found out that we both have possible transfer opportunities to CT from our jobs. He would be working at the Foxwoods casino there, so we’d need to be somewhere reasonably close to there… What are good areas to live in that are withing 30 – 45 minutes from Foxwoods?
We’ve been checking out real estate in towns like Norwich & New London… But was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a good place to start/ raise a family…
Thanks in advance… ![]()

I have been all over this country including Vegas. Nothing quite feels the same as being in the North East. That said, I am sure that people who grew up in the South or West will say the same thing. Connecticut offers you many great opportunities and with Foxwoods and Mohegan, your transition from Vegas to Connecticut will be easy. Of course you will feel at home too.
I would suggest you get a feel for what each “area” has to offer you specifically. Some like quaint towns with sidewalks and parks, others like wide open spaces while still others will like getting up into the woods.Me, I like the water so New London tops my list. If you have the time, I would suggest spending a day checking out a few areas around your job. You will need to take into account such things as commuting, schools, amenities.
Take a look at our Home Buyers Portal. I am sure you will find it very beneficial as it will give you information on both Homes for Sale as well as community information. http://slpct.listingbook.com/
Welcome Home!

I’ve lived in Hartford, Trumbull, Hamden, and Stratford Connecticut.
I’ve spent a week in New London and have visited Norwich. Both have a lot of tall, empty, abandoned buildings in their downtown areas back from when the whaling industry was thriving in the 1800s. New London is close to the military submarine plant (in Groton) which helps stimulate the economy, plus it has a ferry service to Long island. Norwich I know less of, since I’ve only been there to see a local band play. Each town does appear to have a thriving community, once you manage to get past that eerie ghost town feeling each respective downtown area gives you. I’d go with Norwich over New London if it was me.
I’d recommend getting as close to the Goodspeed Opera House, in Haddam, as you can. Its an affluent neighborhood, old victorian houses, lush beautiful vegetation, and not too far from the casinos, hartford, and new haven.
ps – and when a person says a place sucks without presenting any explanation for their statement, I’d say its more of a reflection on the quality of their character rather than the place itself.
