Are there any dog breed restrictions in Las Vegas or the surrounding areas?
I am relocating to Henderson, NV in late summer with my family. I don’t have a dog but my husband is interested in getting a large breed (poss. American Staffordshire). I have been looking at apartments and I have seen a lot of realtors advertising breed restrictions on large breeds. Can you tell me if Clark County/Las Vegas and the surrounding areas have a legal breed restriction? Is there a problem with dog fighting in these areas?
Thanks!!
I have owned these breeds before and they are not bad, its the owners. COME ON – You should know that.
Also, when I say an apartment I mean a rental, which could be a 5,000 sq. ft. home.
I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT LOOKING FOR ANYONE’S PERSONAL OPINION!!!!
Either you have the facts or not.

Thank you so much for letting me know about the restrictions! The extra information about Farmer’s Insurance is very helpful, too! I also thank you for putting the breed information into perspective. I understand that people have opinions on breeds but I am also a mom to two boys and would never own a dog that I feel would harm my family or any other.
BAD OWNERS = BAD DOGS
My eldest would rather have a Rott! We love Rott puppies, they are so beautiful! Thanks again!

I lived in Las Vegas for 12 yrs and when I left in May 2007 there was talk of banning pit bulls since they were deemed ‘unadoptable’ at the shelters. Dog fights were rare on the news, but usually isolated to North Las Vegas.
PS. I was bitten by an American Staffordshire Terrier 2 weeks ago. I’d NEVER recommend getting one since they look just like pit bulls!

You want to live in an apartment with a large breed dog? That should be a restriction along with bad dog owners.

In rental homes, it depends on the landlord , most large or certain breeds are not welcome in townhouse, condos or rental homes, A lot of destruction to outside yards and greenery and inside has caused a lot of problems in the past, of course small breeds can do the same . They have a strick leesh law in Clark county and is taken very seriousy, as clean up after you dog … good luck.

I live in Las Vegas and we have rottweilers. Our neighbors have pit bulls. There’s no restrictions as yet, however, you can’t have more than 3 of the same breed of the bully breeds as they can adopt a "pack mentality" that might prove dangerous.
One more thing. Make sure your renters insurance and/or the homeowners insurance covers the breed. We have Farmer’s Ins because they don’t put restrictions on the breed
Oh, and to the person above me who was bitten the dog, I was bitten by a dog too, on my face and it left me with two black eyes and a scar across my nose. The breed you ask? A dachshund.
