Are swimming pools in the Las Vegas, NV area a good idea?
I’m looking for a home in North Las Vegas and want a swimming pool. Some people tell me that for the Las Vegas area it’s too much work and money to maintain. Is that true? I know insurance will be higher but its just me and my wife; no kids.
I dont mind doing the maintenence myself or buying the supplies. The big thing I was told to worry about was the water bill. However, if the pool is already full of water, why would it be expensive if Im re-using and cleaning that same water? And by the way, if I ask a pool company in Las Vegas, of course they’re going to say its a great idea. Im looking for an un-biased opinion

It depends a lot on what you consider "too much work and money" to be.
Maybe if you have to ask you can’t afford it. Someone in the pool maintenance business in LV would give you a better answer than you will get here.

Pools there still use a fair bit of water as the summer heat can evaporate a lot of water every day. However thousands of families there manage to pay for a pool and if you really want one, by all means get a home with a pool. Its nice relief from the desert heat.

Ever hear of evaporation? The humididty here is around 2% for the most part. That will take all the water if can into the air. When not in use you should cover your pool to keep the evaporation as far down as possible. That is where the water bill comes in as a issue. You don’t drain your pool in the winter because you never have to fear of it freezing. Still I wouldn’t be without a pool.
