I live in a city with a Democratic mayor. We’ve had a Democratic mayor for 50 years. Our crime rate is among the lowest in the nation.
It’s easy to make one party look bad when you cherry pick.

Most US cities have a great deal of poverty and consequent high crime rates. You could easily add a list of those with republican mayors. It’s silly to suggest that crime is tied to the party of the mayor. Most have limited authority. What they share is crumbling infrastructure, a declining tax base, the flight of wealthy whites to the suburbs and decades of neglect due to racism. People of color know that the Republicans don’t care about them, so they elect Democrats in hopes that they will help. Most are not able to do much. It’s a national, and to some extent, international issue.

You’re right….my Republican state has very little crime….likely, because no one would dare live here if they could help it, no one can find work here, bring a company here, send their children to our failing schools.
In fact, our state and all southern states would have been in bankruptcy decades ago if it weren’t for Liberal, blue states bailing us out every year.
We have the 3rd worst educational record in the nation and the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation.

Although stats re impressive, they do not necessarily prove a point. All five cities also have a very high illegal immigration rate. That may have something to do with the crime and poverty.

Oh Dear God, what is wrong with you people? We Democrats step in to try and help people that are always going to need help, and you criticize us for addressing those issues? Income for unemployed people, health insurance, housing, reasonable retirements? Are those bad things? Just because we go to Detroit to try and help people, pointing out that the people in Detroit need help isn’t a criticism of our work, it’s an affirmation of our intentions. God loves us for this work by the way.

The gays and Jews in Miami are not strong enough in numbers to defeat the Cuban Republicans there… Perhaps the mayor is calling himself an "Independent" now – but he was a HUGE Jeb Bush supporter…
And there’s a mega-church on every corner in Memphis with monster trucks and gun-racks in the parking lot… are you going to call it a "liberal" city now?
I just looked it up and Richard C. Hackett (mayor of Memphis for 4 terms in the 80′s and 90′s) was a Republican too…

You clearly haven’t taken a statistics class. Remember that correlation does not prove causation. If you notice, the cities with the most houses have the most murders. So maybe houses cause murders?
